What Else Could It Be?
A shape that isn’t anything yet: what could it become?
What the child does
Children get an abstract shape that isn’t a picture of anything yet and turn it into whatever they imagine: an animal, a machine, a monster, a flower. Nothing to copy and no right answer. Three different shapes, perfect for the last ten minutes of a lesson, early finishers or a cover lesson.

What it develops
- Divergent thinking — the same shape leads to different ideas, and none of them is wrong
- Imagination — sees something where there is nothing yet
- Confidence to start — there is no model to copy, so anyone can begin straight away
- Flexibility — turns the page and the shape means something else
